Tutorial - URL Hotspots

This tutorial shows how to make clicking a hotspot in the movie take the user to a web page.

Step 1

Start by defining a hotspot over the area where you want the URL to trigger. (If you need a detailed explanation on how to define hotspots, see the "Gazebo Walk" tutorial.)

Playground Hotspot

Step 2Selecting Playground hotspot

Go to the Connections area and select the hotspot you just defined from the Hotspots popup menu.

It should rotate into view.

We can now connect the hotspot to a URL.

Step 3

Choose the very Selecting URL destinationlast item in the Destination popup menu: "URL..."

Step 4

Instead of a node movie which you would normally see when selecting an item from the Destination popup menu, a stylized "internet world" appears.

Northwest Playground URL

Below the world, you can type a URL. (Then press RETURN to lock it in.)

(Disclaimer: Click Here Design has no affiliation with Northwest Playground Equipment Inc or Playworld Systems. In fact, until we Googled to them 5 mins ago we hadn't heard of either. Sure looks fun though!)

Step 5

Now clickExporting Playground node(s) the "Export Single Movies..." button to save the movie with its URL hotspot to disk.

As you probably intend to embed the movie in a web page, you may want to first choose an HTML template such as "Movies + Basic HTML Template". Then click "Save".

(Note: single-nodes movies (or movie if you are just placing a hotspot on a single node) are saved into a folder. This keeps the ".mov" and ".html" files together.)

This ends the tutorial.
