QuickStart Tutorial - "The Gazebo Walk"

Part 2 - Connecting Hotspots to Destination Nodes and Exporting a Multinode Movie

Step 14

Click the "Connections" tab to go from the Hotspots area to the Connections area.

With the "node001" hotspot movie showing, you now need to select the first hotspot (the only hotspot in this node). Choose "1" from the Hotspot popup underneath the movie.

The movie should rotate to the appropriate position to show the hotspot in the center.

(Note: When a hotspot is selected, a number shows in the hotspot popup menu and not "No Hotspot Selected".)

Although you can pan the source (left) movie to any position you like to see where the hotspots are, it is important to realise that you can only choose a destination node (on the right) when a source hotspot is actually selected from the popup menu.

As we now have a hotspot selected, you can select a destination node to connect it to. From the "Destination Node" popup, choose "node002" - the node that represents the bird bath area.

When you select a node from the Destination popup, the movie will appear above it.

Step 17

Position the destination node movie (right) so that the view the user will see when the source hotspot is clicked (left) matches the view they are leaving.

(Note: there is no button to lock in the view when you have positioned it - CubicConnector does it automatically when you have finished panning the movie.)

Step 18

As there is only one hotspot on this node, proceed to the next node to connect - "node002" - by selecting it from the Node popup at the top left of the Connections area. (Or use the "Next Node button" to the right of it.)

Step 19

When the hotspot movie has loaded, this time try clicking the "Next Hotspot button" to select the first hotspot. (The "Next Hotspot button" is to the immediate right of the Hotspot popup.) When no hotspot is selected, clicking it takes you to the first hotspot.

Step 20

For hotspot 1, choose "node003" as the destination. Orientate it to the correct position.

Step 21

(As this is the last hotspot for the node, the "Next Hotspot button" will dim, letting you know you have finished the hotspots for this node if you have been working through them in sequence.)

Step 22

Select "node003" and connect hotspot 1 to "node004".

Connect hotspot 2 to "node002".

Step 23

Select "node004" and connect its single hotspot to "node003".

This time type "Exit Gazebo" in the "Label" text box on the left and press RETURN. This will give the user a text cue in the QuickTime VR movie to tell them where they are going. (You can of course enter labels for other hotspots in this tour - they have been left out until now to simplify the learning process.)

This finishes the process of connecting nodes.

Step 24

To preview how the movie will behave and to see if any changes will need to be made, click the "Movie" tab to go to the Movie area.

Then click the "Assemble" button to create a multinode movie containing each node and its hotspots.

Explore the movie, clicking each of the hotspots and checking they take you to the correct place. If you have made any mistakes, return to the Connections area, select the incorrect hotspot and change the destination appropriately.

If you would like to change the size of the saved movie, drag the sizer box at bottom right corner of the movie.

Step 25

The final step of this tutorial is to export the multinode movie to disk. Simply click the "Export Movie..." button at the bottom right of the window (this button is available no matter which area you are currently viewing).

In the file save dialog that appears, choose a name and location to save the movie to and click "Save".

This ends the Gazebo Walk tutorial.
