Tutorial - Choosing Center Point

This tutorial shows how to choose the center point of the first cube face.

Explanation

When you convert an equirectangular image ("photosphere") into a cubic movie, by default the very center of the image will become the center of the first cube face, which is what the user will see when the movie is at pan "0.0" and tilt "0.0".

This may not be what you want the user to see first. Although you can easily change the default view with the Movie Settings panel so that the movie opens with a custom view, the first cube face will remain as converted. This means that if the movie is embedded in a web page, where the cube faces download in order, the desired view may remain blank until the appropriate cube face is retrieved.

The solution is to choose the center of the first cube face when the movie is first converted.

Step 1

Load an equirectangular image ("photosphere") into the Conversion area.

House Entrance

For this tutorial we want the center point of the first cube face to be at the sliding doors, not the window as it would otherwise be.

To do this we move the center point slider which appears whenever an equirectangular image is loaded.

Center SliderStep 2

Drag the center point slider to point to the center of the sliding doors.

This point will become the center of the first cube face.

Step 3

Now click "Convert" to begin converting the equirectangular image into a cubic movie.

When finished, the movie at pan "0.0" and tilt "0.0" will display the point chosen with the center slider.

Movie at zero

If you look at the first cube face, you will see that it too shows this view.

This ends the tutorial.
