Tutorial - Creating Equirectangular Image from Cube Faces
Creating an Equirectangular Image from Supplied Cube Faces
This tutorial shows how to take six 90°x90° cube face images and convert them "back" into an equirectangular format panorama. (If you would like to follow along with this tutorial, you can use the "sample cube faces" folder included in the download.)
Step 1
Open CubicConverter, or if it already running, click the "Conversion" tab to go to the Conversion area.
Step 2
Drag the folder of images into the empty conversion area. (You can also drag the six individual faces as a group and CubicConverter will guess that you are importing cube faces, but dragging the folder is a better habit to form.)

The cube face images will be loaded into the project and displayed as a folder icon in the middle of the conversion area. Information about the cube faces - their type and dimensions - will be displayed in the info panel on the right.

Step 3
Unlike when making a QuickTime VR movie (which is the default), you now need to choose the conversion type using the "Convert To" popup underneath the image. Choose "Equirectangular Image" from the popup menu.

Step 4
To begin the conversion, click the "Convert" button at the bottom of the window.
During the conversion, you will remain in the Conversion area, and will see the equirectangular image being filled in by successive cube face images.

You can now proceed to save the image to disk or save it as a PTViewer Java template.
