CubicNavigator allows you to record a panning sequence and then play it back. The recording can include movement around both the current node and other nodes in a multinode tour. You can also move to completely different nodes, either stored locally or loaded from the web. These tours can be saved and played back from the recording drawer, or as a slideshow to allow a continously running "kiosk" tour to be set running. Tours can be saved to disk for later playback.
To display the recording drawer, either click the "Recording" button on the toolbar if it is visible or choose "Recording Drawer" from the View menu (command-R).
The recording drawer will slide out from the bottom of the window.
To start recording, click the button with a red dot in it in the recording drawer. This button will highlight to indicate recording is in progress.
Now you can start panning the current node and your movement will be stored. Only movement will be recorded, if you let go of the mouse button and wait for a while, there will be no pause when it is played back. (To deliberately pause the movement, just move very slowly over the area you want to pause over.) To change node, either click a hotspot in a multinode scene, or click on another node in the bookmarks list. Again, the pause while the node is loading will not be recorded.
To stop recording, either click the record button again, or the play button which will have temporarily changed to a stop button.
When stopped, you now have a valid recording sequence which can be played back, used in a slideshow, or saved to disk.
The slider to the left of the record/play buttons allows you to move to any point in the recording sequence.
As you move the slider, the viewer area will be updated to match the time reading. Note that if the recording stretches over more than one node, there may be a slight delay as the new node is loaded from disk to be displayed.
To save a recording, click the "Save Recording" button at the top right of the recording drawer. You will be prompted to choose a location to save the file.
The recording file in a custom CubicNavigator format which stores just the panning movement you made and changes to the location. It is not able to be read in other programs and cannot, for instance, be opened in QuickTime Player. By default, files are given the extension ".cnrecording" but it doesn't matter if this extension is removed.
To playback a just recorded or recently loaded recording, click the play button in the center of the recording drawer. The viewer window will be updated in real time as the recording is played backed.
CubicNavigator recordings can be used as the source for slideshows, which allow a continously running fullscreen tour to be displayed.
(The setting circled in red above only appears when a recording has been recently made or loaded from disk.) When shown as a slideshow, the recording can be left running continously. Slideshows can be accompanied by a music or voice recording, allowing an audio accompaniment to the VR tour. Recordings can also be loaded through AppleScript. (See the AppleScript chapter for more information.)
